This tutorial assumes that you are at Instructional Technology Services in the Faculty Resource Room. On the presentation computer, double click on the Real Presenter icon on the desktop. This icon looks like the following:
After clicking on this icon, the program will load. After a few seconds, you will be at the main menu. This menu looks like the following:
We're interested in creating a streaming PowerPoint presentation, so click on the first button labeled "Narrate a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation". The program will then ask you to find your PowerPoint Presentation. This screen will look something like the following:
If you have brought your presentation in on a floppy disk or zip disk, simply find your file and click the "Open" button. If you do not have your presentation with you, you must obtain it before proceeding. The program will then launch Microsoft PowerPoint and return to you the following screen:
Keep the first option checked off - broadcasting live presentation is not supported at this time. When you have finished, click the Next button. You will then be asked to provide some basic summary information about your presentation. All blanks except "Keywords" and "Description" are required. Keywords and Descriptions will be used by Internet search engines in ranking your presentation.
When you have finished, click the Next button. On the next screen you will be asked if you wish to check the audio and video settings. These settings have already been configured and tested by Instructional Technology Services, so go ahead and click the Finish button. Real Presenter will then prompt you with a message saying "Real Presenter G2 will now prepare your slides for broadcast". Click the OK button. Each of your slides will be displayed on the screen as the software indexes and prepares your presentation to be delivered over the Internet. This may take a few moments. Note: You may notice at this time that any slide builds or animations are stripped from the broadcast version of your presentation. This is normal, and must be done to optimize your presentation for delivery over the Internet. Your presentation will then maximize and take up the entire screen. You will also be presented with a control panel entitled "Real Presenter Plus G2". At this time, put on the combination headphone / microphone set. Speak normally in the microphone and watch the Record Level. When you are not speaking, the level should remain completely black. When you speak, the level should rise into the Yellow region. When you are ready to begin recording, click the Start button on the control panel. As soon as you see the timing indicator begin to change [located at the bottom right of the control panel], you may begin speaking. To advance to the next slide / bullet, simply use your mouse like you would in any other PowerPoint presentation. If at any time you need to pause recording, click the Pause button on the control panel. When you have finished, click the Stop button. The following screen will appear. If you wish to save your narration, click the OK button. Otherwise choose one of the other options and click the OK button.
The control panel will shut down and you will be presented with a screen that looks like the following. If you wish to view the final version of your presentation, click the first button labeled "Play your recorded presentation". If you would like to change the narration for just a few individual slides, click the second button labeled "Change the narration for selected slides".
