Course Web Site Development:
Build a Basic Website:
Publishing your Website

Before your website can become active, you must "publish" it to a computer that runs a webserver.  Follow the steps outlined below to learn how.

Publishing Your Web Site Using a TCNJ Beast Account:

When you are done editing and you have saved your web page, follow the directions outlined below.
  1. Click on the File menu.
  2. Drag the mouse pointer down to Publish Web....  The following window will appear.

  3. In the text box, type the location you with to publish your files to.  For the beast account type
    ftp://beast.tcnj.edu/www/ and click Publish.
  4. A window will open asking you for the user name and password.  Your user name is your Unix login name and Unix password.  (The name and password used when checking your TCNJ email).

Now Front Page 2000 will publish the files to your account.  When the publishing is completed, you may use a web browser (Netscape or Internet Explorer) to view your web page on world wide web!  Your URL (web site location) is as follows:

http://www.tcnj.edu/~YOURUNIXNAME (where YOURUNIXNAME is the first part of your e-mail address [without the @tcnj.edu part])

Publishing Your Web Site Using a Facweb/ Intrasun Account:

You do not need to do any special steps to publish your web site.  The web pages are automatically uploaded and auto-published every time you save your page!

Publishing your Web Site Using FTP

If you're using a standard FTP program like WS_FTP, you can connect to the Intrasun system using the following connection information:

  • Host Name:  intrasun.tcnj.edu
  • Username:  <your UNIX account name>
  • Password:  <your UNIX account password>

Once you're connected, click on your Change Directory button [ChgDir] and type in the following directory:

  • /web/virtual/YOURUNIXACCOUNTNAME

This is the root folder of your Intrasun account - you may transfer files in and out of this directory and they will be reflected on your Intrasun website.
